Adele spent blissful days on the tiny, windswept island of Inis Oírr, knitting at Café Úna with our wonderful host Úna McDonagh. In between butter churning, baking scones, and learning the art of natural dyeing, she cast on a headband featuring the Sharry Chain Link Cable Stitch. This treasured family pattern was passed down by Úna’s talented granny.
That headband then became Adele’s prize possession for 7 winters, connecting her to happy memories of Ireland… Until it was accidentally lost at Rhinebeck in late 2024.
Heartbroken, Adele reached out to us:
We didn’t hesitate. Úna, delighted to hear from Adele, still had the pattern and remembered her fondly.
Now, Adele is knitting a fresh version of her beloved headband. And we’re just as excited as she is to see it come to life again! In the process, Adele shared more memories – a patchwork blanket gifted to their young driver whose wife was expecting, hearty bowls of Úna’s vegetable soup, and the camaraderie of knitters exploring Ireland together.
For us at KnittingTours.com, stories like this remind us why we do what we do. Knitting is more than just stitches – it’s a living thread of connection, memory, and joy.
