5 Lovely Things to Do While Knitting
Knitting is the perfect way to slow down, get creative and enjoy a little time for yourself. But once you’re comfortable with your pattern, you don’t always need to knit in silence. From watching your favourite TV show and listening to podcasts to catching up with friends or enjoying your project outdoors, here are five lovely things to do while knitting.

There’s something wonderfully satisfying about knitting. The gentle click of the needles, the softness of the yarn passing through your fingers and, of course, watching your latest project slowly take shape. But one of the best things about knitting is that you don’t always have to give it your undivided attention.

Once you’ve mastered your pattern and your hands know what to do, knitting can be enjoyed alongside some of life’s other simple pleasures. In fact, combining knitting with another relaxing activity can make your precious crafting time even more enjoyable.

So, whether you’re halfway through a cosy jumper, starting a new scarf or finally tackling that project that has been sitting in your knitting basket for months, here are five lovely things to do while knitting your latest project.

1. Watch Your Favourite TV Show

Knitting and television are a match made in heaven. Once you’re comfortable with your pattern, settle on the sofa, pick a favourite show and let your needles do the work.

It’s a great way to catch up on a series you’ve been meaning to watch or revisit an old favourite. Just remember to pause when you reach a particularly tricky part of your knitting, otherwise, you may find yourself wondering why you suddenly have too many (or too few!) stitches.

2. Relax at the Beach

Who says knitting has to happen indoors? On a warm or calm day you can take your project outside and enjoy some knitting by the sea.

There’s something especially relaxing about listening to the waves while working on your latest creation. Find a comfortable spot, bring your knitting bag and enjoy a little time away from the everyday hustle and bustle.

Just keep an eye on that yarn because sand has a remarkable talent for getting absolutely everywhere!

3. Listen to a Podcast

If you love discovering new ideas, stories and conversations, why not put on a podcast while you knit?

From comedy to history, food to true crime, there are endless options to choose from. It’s a lovely way to enjoy your favourite topics while keeping your hands busy. It really is so wholesome and time flies by! And don’t forget – there are some great knitting podcasts out there for you to try!

4. Catch Up with a Friend

Knitting doesn’t always have to be a solitary hobby. Invite a friend over, put the kettle on for some tea or coffee and spend an afternoon knitting and chatting.

You could even arrange to attend a knitting tour where you both bring along your latest project. You’ll get some crafting done over the few days, enjoy good company and probably pick up a few new knitting tips along the way. Thank us later!

5. Take Your Knitting Outdoors

Finally, find somewhere lovely to sit and simply enjoy the view.

It could be your garden, a sunny balcony, a local park or your favourite spot in the countryside. Taking your knitting outdoors gives you a change of scenery and lets you enjoy your surroundings while working on your project.

And who knows? A little fresh air and a different view might even inspire your next knitting project.

A great view really gives you that feel good factor.

Knitting Time is the Best Time

One of the wonderful things about knitting is how easily it fits into everyday life. It can be a creative hobby, a social activity or simply a chance to slow down and relax.

So next time you pick up your needles, think beyond the project itself. Put on a favourite show, listen to an audiobook, head outside or invite a friend over.

Because while finishing a beautiful knitted project is incredibly satisfying, enjoying the time you spend making it is just as important.
