Scotland Knitting Tour: Highlands, Heritage & Handcraft
Scotland is celebrated for its breathtaking landscapes, deep history, and extraordinary craft—and this immersive Knitting Tour brings it all together beautifully. From the drama of the Scottish Highlands to the energy of Edinburgh and Glasgow, the charm of Oban’s coast, and the traditions of the Borders, this journey is a true celebration of Scottish textile heritage.
Begin in historic Edinburgh, exploring the iconic Edinburgh Castle perched high on volcanic rock, before diving into Scotland’s textile story at the Scottish Textile Experience and enjoying a warm welcome dinner with your group. Travel onward to Glasgow via Ginger Twist Studio and the UNESCO-listed New Lanark Mills, where industrial history and innovation come to life.
In Glasgow, enjoy hands-on learning with a lace knitting class led by Samira Hill of Eildon Hills Designs, lunch at the legendary Willow Tea Rooms, and a panoramic tour showcasing the city’s architecture and culture. A visit to Stirling includes weaving workshops at Radical Weavers and time to browse The Orry Mill yarn store, before free evenings to soak up Glasgow’s vibrant atmosphere.
The journey then unfolds into the Scottish Highlands, with lunch in Inveraray and a memorable visit to Auchindrain Township, where you’ll experience a traditional waulking performance by Sgioba Luaidh. Continue through stunning scenery to Oban, enjoying coastal views, group dinners, and a Moebius Cowl knitting class with Deborah Gray. Explore Fort William, the Caledonian Wool Company, and stand on the historic grounds of Culloden Battlefield, followed by a whisky distillery visit and free time in Inverness.
Rounding out the adventure, visit Scone Palace, crowning place of Scottish kings, explore Dundee’s Verdant Works textile museum, and spend your final full day immersed in tradition at Balmerino Farm to Yarn, complete with a Di Gilpin Gansey workshop. The tour concludes back in Edinburgh with a celebratory Farewell Dinner, leaving you inspired, connected, and wrapped in the spirit of Scotland’s craft heritage.
