Day by Day Itinerary

Day 1: Edinburgh and The Scottish Textiles Showcase

Our tour begins in the lobby of the hotel where we introduce you to our experienced tour guide and your new travelling companions! Our first stop is Dovecot Studios for a guided tour of the latest exhibition. We then indulge in a lovely lunch (included) and casual viewing from Dovecot’s balcony over the weavers at work.

Continue to the Scottish Textiles Showcase, specialising in Scottish provenance and craftsmanship. Enjoy a welcome dinner at your hotel this evening.

Day 2: Dundee and Overnight Ferry to Shetland

Today, we leave Edinburgh and travel North towards Aberdeen, where our unforgettable adventure to Shetland begins with an overnight ferry crossing. Along the way, we enjoy a fascinating stop in Dundee, home to two of Scotland’s most iconic attractions – the V&A Dundee and the RRS Discovery.

Step aboard the legendary RRS Discovery at Discovery Point Museum and uncover the extraordinary story of Captain Scott and Ernest Shackleton’s heroic Antarctic expedition.

We then visit the striking V&A Dundee, Scotland’s world-renowned design museum and the first Victoria & Albert museum outside London. Set dramatically on the waterfront, this award-winning attraction showcases the very best of design innovation from the past, present and future through its captivating exhibitions and displays.

After lunch (included), continue to Aberdeen to board an overnight ferry to Shetland. Relax and enjoy the excellent onboard facilities, including comfortable cabin accommodation, a welcoming bar and lounge, restaurant, and gift shop. Breakfast is available onboard the following morning before we arrive refreshed and ready to explore the stunning Shetland Islands.

Day 3: Shetland – Silly Sheep, Shetland Museum and Archives and Jamieson and Smith shopping

On arrival in Shetland, we disembark in Lerwick and, after dropping our bags at the nearby hotel, set off to explore the island. Our first visit is Silly Sheep Fibre Company where beautiful fibre and knitting yarns are lovingly created from their own flock and those of their friends and neighbours. We then enjoy an exclusive Archive Textile Talk and guided tour at the Shetland Museum and Archives.

Following some free time to enjoy lunch at your leisure (not included), we continue to Jamieson & Smith (Shetland Wool Brokers), a true paradise for knitters and fibre enthusiasts. Settled down in the tour hotel for the evening and enjoy a meet and greet with one of our Shetland knitting instructors before dinner.

Day 4: Shetland Knitting Belt Workshop with Janette Budge and Shetland Textile Museum

This morning, enjoy an authentic Shetland knitting experience with an exclusive class featuring the iconic Shetland Knitting Belt! Receive your own special needles and leather belt, both handmade on Shetland. Janette Budge will teach you how to work with a knitting belt – an essential tool for generations of knitters who create warm, durable garments for their families. Enjoy lunch (included) in a local restaurant before heading to the Shetland Textile Museum, which is run by the community. It is the only one of its kind completely dedicated to the heritage of Shetland textiles and knitting. It features examples from the historic to the contemporary, all embracing Shetland skills.

This evening is all about relaxing, enjoying the dinner and an inspiring Knitting Circle hosted by one of Shetland’s talented instructors.

Day 5: Garth's Croft Tour and Bressay Island Tour

This morning, we make the short ferry trip to Bressay Island. Our first stop is a tour of Garths Croft with local farmer Chris Dyer. Experience the traditional Shetland crofting life, with a guided visit through historic buildings, working land, and stories that bring the island’s rural heritage, customs, and daily life of past generations to life. After lunch (included), enjoy an Island Tour led by Chris. The tour offers a relaxed exploration of this peaceful Shetland Island, combining stunning coastal scenery with visits to historic landmarks such as the lighthouse and ancient ruins. Along the way, learn about Bressay’s history, wildlife, and traditional island life, gaining a deeper appreciation of its natural beauty and close-knit community

This evening relax in the hotel. After a delicious dinner, join the second Knitting Circle hosted by one of Shetland’s talented instructors.

Day 6: Shetland Lace with Elizabeth Johnston, Burra Bears and Yarn Shopping

After breakfast, meet Elizabeth Johnston for a class on Shetland Lace. Elizabeth will teach the skills required to plan your own Shetland-inspired lace design. We then stop for lunch (included) and a trip to meet Wendy of Burra Bears, the creator of the Original Shetland Teddy Bear. These are a beautiful example of sustainable textiles.

Finish the day with more yarn shopping at Jamieson’s of Shetland. Return to the hotel for dinner with your fellow knitters.

Day 7: Fair Isle Workshop with Linda Shearer and Ferry to Aberdeen

After breakfast and checkout, join a workshop with renowned local expert Linda Shearer, where we learn how to knit a Fair Isle headband in the round. After the workshop, we journey to Jarlshof, a fascinating archaeological site in Shetland. This is where visitors can explore layers of history from the Neolithic era through the Bronze and Iron Ages to the Viking and medieval periods, with well-preserved ruins that tell the story of thousands of years of human settlement.

There is some free time to so some last minute shopping and to grab a light lunch in Lerwick. Board the overnight ferry with an evening sail from Shetland and a return to Aberdeen.

Day 8: Strathmore Woollen Co. and Glamis Castle

Enjoy breakfast on the ferry before disembarking at Aberdeen. Our first stop of the day will be at Strathmore Woollen Co. This visit offers an insight into traditional Scottish textile craftsmanship, with a short talk on tartan weaving and the company’s heritage. Guests will have time to browse and shop, and each participant will receive a special gift! Following this tour, there will be free time for lunch before the next stop at Glamis Castle which is the ancestral seat of the Earls of Strathmore and Kinghorne. This castle was the inspiration for Shakespeare’s Macbeth and was also the childhood home of H.M. Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother.

Continue on to Edinburgh where we check in to our hotel and indulge in a relaxing group dinner.

Day 9: Kathy’s Knits, Lucy Hague, Scotch Whisky Experience and Farewell Dinner

This morning, enjoy a leisurely morning relaxing and knitting or exploring the charming and historic street of Edinburgh. Later, we visit Kathy’s Knits, a charming independent yarn and knitting shop, where we meet Lucy Hague, renowned pattern designer and author of Celtic Cable Shawls and Illuminated Knits. Take time to browse an inspiring collection of luxurious yarns, unique patterns, and knitting accessories.

The day finishes with a guided tour and tasting of Scotland’s most renowned whiskies at the Scotch Whisky Experience. We then enjoy a Farewell Dinner at Amber Restaurant where we experience the best of Scottish cuisine before returning to your hotel.

Day 10: Farewell to Edinburgh

After breakfast, check out and relax with a private transfer to Edinburgh airport in plenty of time for flight check in and some duty free shopping.
