Tour Overview
Our South of Ireland with Aran Islands Knitting Tour is definitely one for the knitting enthusiast! Beginning in Dublin, explore historic St Patrick’s Cathedral before enjoying a demo and creative trunk show by Aoibhe Ni, an inspirational crochet designer with over a decade and a half of published designs in both mainstream print and independent press. The following day take part in a Fair Isle knitting workshop with Pauline Gallagher of The Knitting Class before heading west to Galway, and stopping off for a lovely lunch en route. In Galway, we explore the rugged beauty of Connemara, including visits to the Connemara Sheep and Wool Centre, historic Kylemore Abbey and charming Glen Keen Sheep farm, as well as plenty of time to explore Galway, the City of Tribes. Take part in a class with Anne O’Maille of the Galway School of Knit on fascinating stitches in the Aran repertoire. Discover the hidden laneways and charming eateries and boutiques of Galway. We immerse ourselves in Aran Island life on Inis Oirr, enjoy a traditional Aran knitting class, baking, and butter churning, spinning and dyeing as well as learning how to make the famous Saint Brigid’s Cross. Back on the mainland, marvel at the majestic Cliffs of Moher and spend time in the beautiful Bunratty Castle and Folk Park. On our day trip to Cork we partake in a Cable knitting workshop with Carol Feller of Stolen Stitches and returning to Kerry once again to Liz Spillane who will show you the Art of Knitting with Colour and Texture in her picturesque home on the Ring of Kerry. Marvel at some of the viewing points en route back to Killarney while also paying a visit to the working Kerry Woollen Mills before departing the Kingdom and heading northwards to the Rock of Cashel, before returning to Dublin where you will enjoy a Farewell “Cast-Off” Dinner.

The knitting tour was absolutely wonderful. I had such a great time. Jane was a wonderful tour guide. Her love of her country comes shining through when she told us of the history and current events. I plan on taking the Northern Ireland Knitting tour in the future.
Thank you for following up with me! The trip was truly wonderful. Our tour guide, Mary, was outstanding and the bus driver did a really fantastic job on some difficult roads. There were some miscommunications about transportation to and from the airport for us (Kevin and Kristin), but those were resolved pretty quickly. This trip makes me want to try one of your knitting retreats now!
It was a good trip. Mary Lavery and Billy (our driver) were wonderful, and made the trip quite special for all of us. We felt like we were in good hands.
The workshops were good, especially the one with Carol Feller. I’ve done a lot of cable knitting, and she was the one I learned the most from.
We had a great time. Mary, the guide, and Bert, the driver, were the BEST! I loved every place we went and hope to be able to return some day to some of the places, especially Inis Mor and the other islands. I, for one, went to see the landscape in the parts of Ireland that I hadn't yet seen. I'm sure that other prospective participants feel the same.
I had an absolutely wonderful time on the knitting tour! Such wonderful people and places and events! The workshops were great and our hotels were wonderful. Fiona and Kenny were fabulous. Some of our group have asked if there is an email we could have for Fiona - respecting her privacy, is there a work email that she uses.
Already thinking about my next tour :)
Thank you Tina. It was a fabulous trip. I have done both knitting tours. I believe Donegal was my favorite but I loved both tours.
We had such a wonderful time! Every person welcomed us and made us feel so special. Our tour guide, Mary, and coach driver, Bert, took exceptional care and made each event unforgettable. I loved all of the instructors and learned so much. It was the trip of a lifetime.
The tour was so amazing for me and I know, that was not the last time I was in Ireland. I love the people and the country so much. I think about my next tour with my friend next year. I will surprise him with this tour.
Don’t worry, you can bring your partners, companions or family who don’t knit. We have plenty to keep them occupied during your knitting classes and they are more than welcome to join in with everything else!
