Samira Hill is a professional knitting and crochet tutor, designer, and textile historian based in the Scottish Borders. With a background in archaeology, Samira brings a unique perspective to the world of knitting, combining technical excellence with a deep appreciation for the cultural and historical significance of textile arts. She is widely recognised as an authority on the archaeology and history of Scottish knitting, and has presented her research at various events, bridging the gap between heritage and contemporary craft.
Through her business, Eildon Hills Designs, Samira offers a range of services including pattern design, technical editing, and professional tuition. She is also the co-organiser of Tangled Galashiels, a vibrant fibre festival celebrating creativity and community in the Scottish Borders.
Samira’s teaching spans an impressive array of techniques, including Brioche, Lace, Intarsia, and Entrelac knitting. Her classes are known for their clarity, encouragement, and attention to detail—whether guiding beginners through new methods or helping experienced knitters refine their skills. She also specialises in finishing techniques such as Swiss Darning and beautiful, structured seams that give handknits a polished, professional look.
For the past eight years, Samira has taught knitting and crochet to both children and adults as part of Knitting For All, in communities across Kelso, Melrose, and Jedburgh. Her students value not only her technical knowledge but also her infectious enthusiasm and ability to make complex techniques approachable and enjoyable.
