Gillian Cooper is a passionate textile artist, inspiring educator, and a fantastic inclusion to our Great British Quilt Quest!
Gillian’s journey into the world of textiles began after a successful career in accounting. In her early 30s, she embraced her artistic calling, studying textiles at the iconic Goldsmiths, University of London. Since then, she has cultivated a holistic practice that intertwines her love for landscape, history, drawing, and fabric. Her work often explores the natural links between exploring nature, art and stitching.
Based in her studio in Balfron, Stirlingshire, Gillian has been a practicing artist for over 20 years. She has exhibited widely across the UK and internationally, with solo exhibitions like ‘A Walk in the Woods’ and ‘Unsung Muses.’ She has also participated in group exhibitions such as ‘Step by Step’ and ‘Presence: A Sense of Time and Place.’
Gillian is also a dedicated educator, offering certifications in patchwork & quilting and creative sketchbooks among others. Her teaching philosophy revolves around encouraging adults to discover their unique artistic voice and her students delight and excel in an environment where creativity flourishes under Gillian’s guidance.
Beyond teaching, Gillian has contributed to textile publications including Today’s Quilter and The Quilter, sharing her expertise and innovative design with a broader audience.
