The Irish Fibre Crafters offers a huge welcome to everyone that visits the place. They are a group of crafters based in Ireland who love to spin, weave, felt, knit, crochet and embroider where all sorts of wonderful items and art are produced with sustainable natural fibres, particularly Irish wool and Irish alpaca. Teaching fibre craft is something that they love to do too.

Irish Fibre Crafters is a working studio and small shop located in the village square of Ardrahan, County Galway, near the Wild Atlantic Way. They opened on 23 February 2019, and have been thrilled by the enthusiastic response from locals and visitors alike to their workshops, demonstrations, and products.

Depending on who is working in-studio on the day of a visit, there is a chance to see weaving, spinning, felting, or embroidery project in progress. Keep an eye out for an interesting display of wool samples from the sheep breeds raised in Ireland (including one of the 2 last remaining Irish traditional breeds: the Galway sheep,) so you can see and feel the differences between them. For each they have the raw wool and handspun yarns made from each breed—so you are welcome to touch!

They strive to have the vast majority of our crafts created with Irish fibres. As there is no fibre washing, carding, or spinning mill in Ireland, that will process fleeces for individuals or groups, it means that the Irish fibre items you see at Irish Fibre Crafters have been worked from the raw fleece to finished object by a crafter.

Farming is an integral part of life in Ireland, and of course, without sheep farming, the crafters would be left without a mainstay of sustainable fibre craft. At Irish Fibre Crafters, they are passionate about sourcing wool from Irish farms, paying farmers a good price for this versatile natural product, and are dedicated to raising the positive profile of Irish sheep’s wool and Irish alpaca fleece.

For further information on the company, you can check out their upcoming workshop calendar and a selection of products on their online shop at irishfibrecrafters.com
